Fortieth birthday,
fastening my old belt
at a new hole.

Light of a half moon
she traces a thumbnail
across my bare chest.

Staring into flames,
an old man and his old wife,
their dancing shadows.

Breath on the window,
where she said she loved me,
gradually fading.
